Giò di Busca was born in Milan in 1959 to an Italian father and Swiss mother. From an early age, he showed a strong attraction for art and in particular for painting, and he soon began his studies in this activity He was encouraged by the artists and intellectuals who were a constant presence in his family life, first and foremost the art expert Gustavo Predaval and the critic and painter Oreste Marini, who steered him towards a refined use of colour and light. A decisive factor in Giò di Busca’s training was his stay in Paris at the studio of French-Italian sculptor Emile Giglioli, where the young artist developed a love for sculpture that has remained with him to this day. After completing his studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Venice, Giò di Busca quickly won appreciation both nationally and internationally, obtaining prestigious commissions for eclectic design projects and furnishings that soon became popular amongst personalities from the international jet set, such as Gianni Versace, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Jackson. For the latter, he created exclusive furnishings for his home in Kent, England. Successively, during years of study, di Busca explored the potential of PostImpressionist painting, Klimt, Kandinsky, Picasso and Pollock, eventually adopting abstraction and abandoning figuration. The artist’s work has always been hallmarked by a quest for luminosity and colour, which led him to design some remarkable jewellery commissions, a presage of a later period of painting in which gold would be the undisputed protagonist. Over the years, Giò di Busca has taken part in many exhibitions. In 2014, he was invited to Bastia at the Département de la Haute-Corse, in 2015 he exhibited at the Galleria della Biblioteca Angelica in Rome, and in 2016 the Municipality of Portofino and Santa Margherita hosted a widespread show of his works. In 2017, “Il Correggio” Museum presented an exhibition of the artist’s sculptures at the Palazzo dei Principi in Correggio, and in the same year, the European Cultural Centre staged an exhibition of Giò di Busca’s works at Palazzo Mora on the occasion of the Venice Biennale. In 2018, his shows included participation at Wopart in Lugano, and in Pietrasanta he presented the Stratificazioni cycle of paintings, which marked the artist’s move towards abstract painting and paved the way for the Lave d’oro cycle. Giò di Busca lives and works in Switzerland, canton of Ticino.
